Q1. How do these reins improve control for all riders? 

Balanced Support Reins feature a second elastic that reduces too much movement when a horse tosses or lowers its head. Our patented design helps to control cheeky or unpredictable behaviour, giving you an added layer of security. For younger or less experienced riders, the reins act as an extra "pair of hands," helping them to check and manage strong horses, prevent sudden bucks, or sideways movement. Riders find it easier to stay in control in these situations or when going into a canter. 

Q2. Do Balanced Support Reins reduce hand and arm tiredness? 

Absolutely. Balanced Support Reins reduce pressure on your hands by taking on the work of checking the horse. Loop Handle Reins are particularly helpful for riders with arthritis or limited grip strength, offering a more comfortable option than traditional reins alone. Our Full Rubber Reins provide extra grip and more rein to hold, stopping your hands getting as tired during long rides. 

Q3. Are they suitable for different weather conditions? 

Our Full Rubber, Half Rubber and Rubber Web Reins are suited for all weather types. The Rubber Web Reins are especially good for when it’s raining, and we know our customers love the extra grip during wet weather. If your hands are smaller, we’d recommend Half Rubber reins. Our Loop Handled Reins are also a very good all round weather option. Though they are all leather, putting your hands through the loops not only gives you more stability and control it also stops them slipping when it is wet.

My child is nervous horse riding – will these reins help? 

Q5. How do Balanced Support Reins build a child's confidence in the saddle? 

For younger riders we recommend our Coloured Rubber Training Reins. These help with hand position and knowing where to put their hands as well as improving overall seat and composition. Without these, children can tend to hold the top of the reins where it is slack or hold them too tight. If their pony is a bit cheeky this extra elastic rein reduces the risk of the pony doing anything unwanted. They help children feel secure and in control and give parents peace of mind that they wouldn’t have with normal reins. 

Q6. Are these reins safe and easy for children to use during lessons and in competitions? 

Yes, Balanced Support Reins are ideal for lessons and everyday riding. While they’re permitted in Pony Club activities, they are not yet approved for formal competition use. Nonetheless, their ease of use and feeling of being more in control make them a trusted choice for young riders.

Our world-wide patent protected design features an additional elastic rein. This mitigates sudden pulls or erratic behaviour by reducing the pony’s ability to overextend its movement. This means the rider remains balanced and in control at all times.

Q11. How do they help and which reins to choose? 

Loop Handle Reins are suitable for riders with a range of abilities and strength. These have an adjustable handle on each of the reins that make them easier to hold. A Balance Saddle Strap which attaches to the front of the saddle gives the rider an extra place to hold onto. These are especially useful for riders who struggle with weakness in their hands. Together they give extra grip, control and confidence that you might not get with the other reins.  

Q12. I have some pain in my hands and joints – will these reins help? 

By reducing strain on the hands and providing alternative grip options, our reins, in particular our Loop Handle Reins are ideal for riders managing joint pain or arthritis. The added support and comfort make riding more enjoyable.
